Korean photographer Ahn Jun's Self-Portrait project features the dainty photographer on the ledge of some dangerously imposing buildings. We've seen our fair share of daredevils dangling off the ledge of towering structures, but there's something darker about Ahn's photography. The series appears to be a reflection of urban life from the somber perspective of an isolated girl amidst a jungle of concrete buildings.
Rather than focusing on her death-defying feat, we're intrigued by the character that the photographer portrays. In one instance we see Ahn, a lonely creature in a party dress, against a night sky illuminated by fireworks. Why is she tip-toeing on the edge of a building instead of joining in the festivities? The images give viewers a sense of the subject's yearning to feel something, though unlike the other thrill-seekers we've come across, she wants to feel something more than just an adrenaline rush.
