Artist Christine McConnell isn't the type of person who's going to let a house go undecorated during the holiday season. That's why she's once again given her parents' residence a makeover–with a eerily festive twist. Rather than using store-bought lights and your typical Christmas-themed decorations, McConnell aimed to turn an ordinary home into the witch's cottage from Hansel and Gretel. Using foam core insulation board, she designed some petrified-looking gingerbread men, candy cane columns, and gingerbread gravestones. To mimic an iced roof, the artist constructed a nylon rope net and mentions how “getting it on was tricky.”
Once all the decorations were put in place, McConnell asked her nieces Chloe and Keira to play Hansel and Gretel. She then elected to transform herself into the fairy tale witch and made all the costumes by hand. If you look closely, you'll also notice that there's another child calling for help from behind a top floor window pane.
There's no doubt about it: McConnell is taking holiday decorations to a whole new, delightfully spooky level.
