Creative Design: Hourglass Nightlight (3 pics)

University of Art and Design (ECAL) graduate Vanessa Hordies created a bedside lamp called Night Night. The prototype has a wooden base and a glass top. Once inverted and a button is pushed, the light stays on for fifteen minutes as sand gradually trickles down to cover the light while the user drifts off to sleep.

“Research has shown that when people go to bed it usually takes between ten and twenty minutes for them to fall asleep,” says Hordies. “The objective of the timer is straightforward. Its function is to switch off the lamp, so that it is not on all night making it environmentally friendly.”
