No animals were harmed in the making of these elegantly felted scarves by Polish sisters Celina and Maja Debowska. The duo's Etsy shop, known as Celapiu, specializes in wrap-around wool scarves made to look like birds. The swan style was inspired by the “amazing swan dresses Björk had worn to the Oscars and on her Vespertine tour” and is seen in Celapiu's product photos paired with dazzling evening gowns—though the dainty feathers and sparkly beak would be excellent additions to spice up a casual outfit, too.
The scarves allure customers who want to achieve a sophisticated, vintage look of women in the 1920s, dressed to the nines in their furs and stoles—but without the guilt and animal cruelty that comes with it. The sisters of Celapiu make each scarf by hand with 100% raw materials and heaps of attention to detail. “Playful, out of context, conceptual – these are few keywords to grasp Celapiu's spirit. I play with styles, shuffle between cartoon kitsch and urban deconstruction,” Celina says of her style. Mostly, they just want you to look fabulous and feel good at the same time.
You can view all of Celapiu's creature stoles, or request a custom order, on their Etsy shop.
Besides swans, Celapiu also creates scarves of other animals, including foxes, owls, and deer.
