Glowing Lamp Lights Appear to be Astronomical Explosions

Artist Fabian Oefner is on a roll these days, creating all kinds of scientifically-based artistic creations that cannot be missed! We absolutely love his watercolor mosaics and colorful dancing sound waves, so we just couldn't resist featuring his out-of-this world Nebulae project.

The series appears to feature tiny stars, galaxies, and astronomical phenomena in the very, very far distance. In reality, each photograph focuses on the glowing ends of a fibre glass lamp. Using a long exposure, Oefner moves the glowing lamps around a pitch black room to create streaks of light across the frame. Afterwards, he overlays multiple images in Photoshop to create the type of depth that we see when we look up into the night sky. The final results are filled with a vibrant energy that he dubs “outer space in studio.” Oefner says, “What I personally like about this project is how you can create an illusionist space with such simple means, that are familiar to everybody.”
