UK-based artist Nic Joly uses toy figures, wire, paper, paint, clay, and any inspiring objects that catch his eye, to create these clever and tiny little worlds completely by hand. The artist is motivated by all aspects of life and he says, “Does relevant and intriguing art have to be large in scale? With the way my work has been growing, obviously not. My fascination with creating small-sculpture works inspired by the theater of life has grown into an absolute obsession for me, no area of life is safe.”
While many of us tend to overlook the small details of life, Joly is an artist who notices, and better yet, captures, those moments in sculpture form. His website, Under Foot, features all of these expressive thoughts and mundane moments that he says “make us all feel like we live underfoot.” Recently, Joly has been busy developing his work and many of the pieces are on display at The Woolff Gallery in London through the end of January. Additionally, he has been working on a major new collection that will be exhibited in a solo show in London, so keep an eye out for more of his new work early next year.
