When most people see a pair of ruby red slippers, the story of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz usually comes to mind. Though shoes are not always the first visual cue for many TV shows and movies, different styles can often be associated with specific stories and fictional characters. French illustrator Nicolas Bannister decided to take this pop culture trend and turn it into a clever poster series, entitled Movie Shoes.
He says, “Being a fan of movies and shoes, I made these tribute posters to the most iconic footwear of movies and TV.” Each poster features popular characters, from the knee down, sporting recognizable shoe wear like Marty McFly's high top sneakers and Pee-Wee Herman's tasseled loafers. Bannister uses only simple color palettes to convey the characters and their personalities, which shine through in the artist's purposeful selection of poses.
