Mirrored Neon Lights Optical Illusion

What you see is what you get…or is it? Australian artist Steven Morgana creatively explores and challenges this statement through many of his interactive sculptures. He enjoys creating works that make us think about “our perception of reality and the possibilities therein.” Like many artists, his curiosity and his desire to answer questions inspire his creations.

In this piece, titled Beauty Is In the Eye of the Collective, Morgana used a rounded mirror and neon lights to create the optical illusion of a floating circle. Standing at an angle, the viewer sees a full circle of lights and a rainbow projected onto the floor. But upon closer inspection and interaction with the piece, the open set-up reveals a new understanding of reality that is different from the viewer's initial impression.
