Jessica Stewart

Jessica Stewart is a Staff Editor and Digital Media Specialist for My Modern Met, as well as a curator and art historian. Since 2020, she is also one of the co-hosts of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. She earned her MA in Renaissance Studies from University College London and now lives in Rome, Italy. She cultivated expertise in street art which led to the purchase of her photographic archive by the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia in 2014. When she’s not spending time with her three dogs, she also manages the studio of a successful street artist. In 2013, she authored the book "Street Art Stories Roma" and most recently contributed to "Crossroads: A Glimpse Into the Life of Alice Pasquini." 30 Years of Graffiti Chipped Off a Wall Reveals Colorful Layers of Decades-Old Art

Ever look at a graffiti wall and wonder what would happen if you scraped off a bit of paint? Well, Imgur user Paul De Graaf saved you the trouble by chipping away at a wall of graffiti in the Netherlands. This is what he found. Over 30 years of paint caused an incredibly colorful stratification that is almost like reading the rings on a tree trunk.

‘The Restaurant of Order Mistakes’ Only Staffs Waiters with Dementia, So Every Order is a Surprise

Worldwide, dementia affects 47.5 million people with 9.9 million new cases each year. Recently, a pop-up restaurant in Tokyo spent 3 days in operation, changing the public's perception of those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. The Restaurant of Order Mistakes, which was open in early June, was staffed by sufferers of these disorders. Six smiling waitresses took orders and served food to customers, who came in knowing they may not get what they asked for.

Frozen Popsicles Made From 100 Different Polluted Water Sources

Three design students in Taiwan teamed up for the Polluted Water Popsicles project, which contrasts art aesthetics with environmental activism. The group went to 100 different polluted water sources in Taiwan, collecting samples that they then froze into popsicles. These popsicles were then turned into 1:1 poly models and wrapped in beautiful packaging to contrast our tendency to overlook that which is ugly and problematic for the sake of aesthetics.

Interview: Masterful Photoshop Artist Combines Images to Create Magical Scenes

Digital artist Viktoria Solidarnyh continues to impress with her ability to merge random photos into fantasy composite imagery. Using Photoshop, Lightroom, and a graphics tablet, the Ukrainian artist specializes in digital art filled with Disney imagery and whimsical fairy tale touches. Taking an average of 3 to 5 days to complete, the trained designer—she also studied photography—only began working with digital composites in January 2016.
