Jessica Stewart

Jessica Stewart is a Staff Editor and Digital Media Specialist for My Modern Met, as well as a curator and art historian. Since 2020, she is also one of the co-hosts of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. She earned her MA in Renaissance Studies from University College London and now lives in Rome, Italy. She cultivated expertise in street art which led to the purchase of her photographic archive by the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia in 2014. When she’s not spending time with her three dogs, she also manages the studio of a successful street artist. In 2013, she authored the book "Street Art Stories Roma" and most recently contributed to "Crossroads: A Glimpse Into the Life of Alice Pasquini." Spectacular National Winners of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards

The World Photography Organisation has revealed the National Winners of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards. Selected from more than 200,000 photos submitted to the Open Competition, these images highlight the best photography from 55 participating countries. This year, the competition added four new regional awards that spotlight the breadth of photographic talent from a range of countries across Europe. Likewise, the Latin American National Award honors photographers from Central and South America.

Portraits of Indigenous People From All Around the World

For over 50 years, Survival International has been working to protect the rights of Indigenous people around the globe. Not only do they help tribes lobby for their land rights, but they also confront the atrocities that these tribes are facing—from genocide to racism. In order to stay impartial, the charity does not accept government funding. To help support their ongoing campaigns, they've recently released their 2023 calendar, We, the People.

2,000-Year-Old Castle Destroyed by Powerful Earthquake on the Border of Turkey and Syria

When a powerful earthquake struck central Turkey and northwest Syria on Monday, February 6, it caused mass devastation. With a magnitude of 7.8, it was the most powerful earthquake to hit the area in at least a century. The tremors, which latest for hours afterward, could be felt as far away as Greece and Lebanon. Over 5,000 people perished during the natural disaster, and a staggering 5,775 buildings collapsed.

Among the vast collection are historic valentines from the United States and Europe that speak to a time when sending cards reached its apex. In the 19th century, with commercially printed cards now available, sending and receiving gifts and notes for Valentine's Day became a hallmark of Victorian life.
