Urs Fischer’s Sculptures Are Candles That Slowly Melt Away Over Time

In 2011, Swiss artist Urs Fischer set the art world on fire—literally—with his melting wax figures installation at the Venice Biennale. Now, his melting sculptures are on view once more—this time at the Bourse de Commerce. This new Parisian museum is the latest venture by the Pinault Collection, which handles the art collection of French businessman François Pinault.

Christopher Columbus Statue in Mexico City Will Be Replaced by a Monument To Indigenous Women

Mexico joins the long list of countries gripped in a post-colonial reckoning with problematic historical figures as its capital city puts plans in motion to replace a long-standing monument to Christopher Columbus. Previously located on one of Mexico City’s main thoroughfares, Paseo de la Reforma, the 19th-century bronze statue of the controversial explorer was removed by city officials last October for scheduled restoration.

Street Artist Uses Flowering Trees as “Natural Hair” To Complete Portraits of Women and Girls

Brazilian street artist Fábio Gomes Trindade combines painting and nature to create singular works that are only complete when viewed together. With the help of tree branches that sit above his vibrant murals, he produces portraits where only part of the head is present—such as the face and a portion of the hair. But when paired with colorful flowering trees and green leaves, the portrait has a full, beautiful coif.
