Wynwood Walls Celebrates 10 Years of Transformative Street Art in Miami

When real estate mogul Tony Goldman stumbled upon the Miami neighborhood of Wynwood in 2009, he was able to see something that others couldn't. Over the course of 10 years, Goldman's vision transformed the area's anonymous warehouses into blank canvases for some of the world's best street artists. To mark this anniversary, Wynwood Walls is celebrating with a host of new murals, a retrospective exhibition, and a book that celebrates its achievements.

Artist Finds Discarded Thrift Store Paintings and Transforms Them Into Pop Culture Masterpieces

Artist Dave Pollot takes otherwise overlooked thrift store paintings and transforms them into his own masterpieces. By seamlessly integrating elements from pop culture, the scenes featuring still lifes, boats at sea, and bucolic landscapes are given a surreal twist with additions like fast food, SpongeBob, and horror film monsters. The ongoing project started in 2012 as a joke between Pollot and his wife.

Partially Hand-Stitched Photos Visualize the Past Boundaries of the Berlin Wall

November 9, 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. And although there is no longer a physical border between East and West, there is still a strong sense of Berlin’s turbulent past all over the city. LA-based artist Diane Meyer visited the former, 104-mile (160 km) path where the wall once stood. The site inspired her to create a reflective series, simply titled Berlin.

Museum Digitally Alters 4 Masterpieces to Illustrate the Devastating Impact of Climate Change

The paintings of European masters often depict blissful scenes and lush landscapes—but what would these historical artworks look like if the artists had climate change on their minds? To coincide with the 2019 UN Climate Change Conference in Madrid, Museo del Prado and WWF have teamed up to digitally alter paintings from the museum’s collection to reflect a grim future of rising sea levels and refugee camps.
