Poignant Photos Highlight the “Invisibility of Poverty”

Just because you can’t see it, does that mean it isn’t there? That is a question easily invoked by photographs from UNICEF China’s 2008 campaign to raise awareness about the “invisibility of poverty” affecting children in China. In a series of poignant photographs, homeless children in Beijing were painted identical to their surroundings so that they were almost indiscernible from the cityscape around them.

Artist Turns Used Tea Bags Into Miniature Canvases for Daily Watercolor Paintings

Since she began her 363 Days of Tea project in 2015—a personal challenge to create art daily by repurposing her used tea bags—visual artist and graphic designer Ruby Silvious has not ceased to record everyday impressions on her miniature recycled canvases. What has resulted in the following years is quite an extensive body of work, including several series documenting her travels, daily life, and even museum visits.

Artist Transforms Ordinary Wooden Benches Into Dynamic Curling Works of Art

French-Argentine artist Pablo Reinoso believes that art always changes the space it inhabits. “It can provide the environment in which it is inscribed a new meaning, a new function, and a new angle of vision,” he explains. Reinoso’s dynamic benches certainly explore the spaces they inhabit in unexpected ways. Strips of wood and metal seem to break away from traditional benches or frames to complete dramatic gestures across a room or public space.
