Artist Adds ‘Star Wars’ To Discarded Paintings He Finds in Thrift Stores

While many people may overlook old thrift store paintings, Dave (of Arrowhead Vintage & Goods) actually seeks them out to transform the outdated landscapes into surreal sci-fi scenes. He alters old, forgotten artworks by adding pop culture characters that seem to blend seamlessly within the painterly scenes. From the Iron Giant treading through a forest to Godzilla at the beach, Dave adds characters from a whole host of fantasy films.

These Incredible Hand-Carved Stones Look Like They’re Made of Soft Putty

Rocks don’t exactly have the most malleable surfaces, but the work of artist José Manuel Castro López might make you think otherwise. He carves real stones to make them look as though they have soft, fabric-like wrinkles and creases. The illusion is awe-inspiring and speaks to the reverence that López has for his subject. “My relationship with the stone is not only physical but also magical,” López tells My Modern Met.

Sculptor Creates “Glitchy” Wooden Figures and Shares His Process on Instagram

Taiwanese sculptor Hsu-Tung Han fuses traditional woodworking techniques with a visual motif that is distinctly modern. Each of his wooden portraits is distorted with pixelated “glitches” that obscure some areas of the built figure. Part of a face, for instance, is missing or a man's chest is vibrating with wooden cubes. The result of these “bugs” is a contemporary feel while the analog media is a contrasting nostalgic effect.
