Artist Adds ‘Star Wars’ To Discarded Paintings He Finds in Thrift Stores

While many people may overlook old thrift store paintings, Dave (of Arrowhead Vintage & Goods) actually seeks them out to transform the outdated landscapes into surreal sci-fi scenes. He alters old, forgotten artworks by adding pop culture characters that seem to blend seamlessly within the painterly scenes. From the Iron Giant treading through a forest to Godzilla at the beach, Dave adds characters from a whole host of fantasy films.

Imaginary Ecosystems Explore Using Prussian Blue as an Antidote Inside Their Abstract World

Portland-based artist Yellena James continues to create imaginary aquatic ecosystems made up of amorphous organic forms. She paints mesmerizing flora and fauna that bloom across the canvas in a rainbow of different color schemes. For her latest series titled Antidote, however, she specifically incorporated the hue Prussian blue into her work.

Torn Cardboard Is Reimagined as Vast Oceans for These Tiny Painted Swimmers

Iranian artist Golsa Golchini specializes in adding tiny ocean-dwelling people to her paintings. Previously, she has placed them within sculptural strokes of paint, and now, she's exploring more unconventional mediums in which to show her whimsical figures. Entitled Invisible Waters, Golchini's newest series reimagines sheets of cardboard as an aquatic backdrop for acrylic renderings of swimmers, sunbathers, and other beachgoers.
