400-Megapixel Photo of the Sun Made From 100,000 Photos

Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy has outdone himself with his 400-megapixel image of the Sun. Comprised of over 100,000 individual photos, it's McCarthy's highest-resolution photo of this celestial body. It only took McCarthy 30 minutes to capture the individual shots after shooting 80 frames per second.  From there, it was all about processing the frames to put together the 40-panel mosaic that makes up the final shot.

All 13 Full Moons From 2023 Together in One Brilliant Photo

Photographer Ivana Fanti is fascinated by the Moon. Believing it to be a source of creative energy, it's often the subject of her astrophotography. Her Instagram feed is filled with incredible images that are a testament to her determination and dedication to photographing the Earth's satellite. To close out 2023, she posted one image that sparked the public's imagination and racked up over 1.8 million likes.

Stars Align for Photographer in this Rare Photo of an Aurora, STEVE, and the Milky Way

When British photographer Stephen Pemberton heard reports that the Aurora borealis would be visible in his area, he quickly gathered his camera equipment and headed out the door. He made his way to his favorite location in Northumberland—the Howick Bath House. Free from light pollution, the structure makes for an interesting setting. Once he arrived, he was pleased to see that the Aurora was active, but he certainly didn't expect what came next.
