Photography Contest Honors the Importance of the World’s Mangrove Forests in Combatting Climate Change

Providing natural infrastructure to protect against erosion and capturing large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions, mangroves are a vital part of the ecosystem. However, these natural allies against climate change are facing challenges. This makes organizations like the Mangrove Action Project, which works to preserve and restore the world's mangrove forests, all the more vital. As part of their public outreach, the Mangrove Action Project hosts the annual Mangrove Photography Awards.

Heartwarming Winners of the 2023 Dog Photography Awards

Since 2021, the Dog Photography Awards has honored the creativity of photographers who showcase the diversity of dogs in their work. For the 2023 edition, there were 1,440 entries from 50 different countries. Dog photographers were asked to enter their work into four different categories—Portrait & Landscape, Action, Dogs & People, and Studio. The winning photos are creative, heartwarming, and incredibly cute.

Singer Harry Connick Jr. Snaps a Beautiful Drone Image of a School of Fish Forming a Heart

Harry Connick Jr. is best known for being a singer, having sold over 30 million records worldwide and won three Grammy awards. When he's not on stage, however, he seems to enjoy trying his hand at drone imagery. During a recent outing at Cape Cod, Connick Jr. snapped a striking picture of a school of fish forming a heart. Thrilled about the image he took, the singer promptly posted it to social media.

These Rare Daguerrotypes Are the Earliest Surviving Photos of Iran in the 1850s

When photography was still in its infancy, an Italian recorded what some of Iran's most spectacular sights in rare daguerreotypes. Luigi Pesce, a colonel from Italy, traveled to Iran to train infantry units in 1848. While there, his enthusiasm for photography led him to travel across the country and capture what he saw. There are a total of 75 photographs in this rare collection, most of which were taken in the 1850s.
