At the smell of a crispy biscuit and the sound of the word ‘treat,' dogs tend to lose control. They may leap, their eyes may widen, their jowls may wildly flop about. In his series, Dogs Catching Treats, German photographer Christian Vieler has captured that magical moment right before the thrown treat is caught. Vieler has been documenting dogs in his studio for three years, which has built up a portfolio of unique catching strategies. Some dogs go all in enthusiastically with mouth wide open. Others have a more lackadaisical approach. No matter if they present a nervous smile or a more skeptical face, the portraits showcase each dog's personality in a downright adorable way.
As for why Vieler focuses on dogs as the subjects of his work, the photographer tells Huffington Post: “Dogs never complain about a bad session. They don’t even seem to mind as long as treats keep coming.” He continues to say that every second dog misses the treat on the first try, but their dedication for a treat is mighty and they always end up with a tasty reward. Sometimes, a dog's victory is even captured on film!
