British mixed media artist Lizzie Campbell (aka Clay Disarray) recreates famous paintings with colorful polymer clay. Resembling the style of classic claymation characters, the artist’s playful Polymer Paintings look like they belong on the walls of a Wallace and Gromit set.
From a Frida Kahlo self-portrait to Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, each piece of sculptural wall art is made from wire and layers of FIMO modeling clay. Campbell first rolls out flat clay backgrounds before kneading, shaping, and attaching the three-dimensional elements and small details. Once complete, they are put into an oven to harden and then mounted inside a decorative, 11.5 x 9.5 inch frame, ready to be hung on the wall as a novelty homage to the real masterpieces.
Campbell’s creative crafting has landed her commissions with clients such as BBC, Universal Music, Glastonbury Festival, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. She’s also exhibited her clay characters in locations across the world including the Rugby Festival of Culture, England where her Frida Kahlo piece is currently being exhibited until July 15, 2018.
