Artist Creates Huge Photorealistic Portraits of His Family

Grandmother

24-year-old artist Dino Tomic (aka AtomiccircuS) has completed five of six photorealistic portraits of his family using colored pencils, charcoal and acrylic. While he's equally skilled at creating digital art as well as making hyperrealistic colored pencil drawings of eyes, it's these large-scale portraits that has us in total disbelief. While Tomic is also a tattoo artist by trade, he's been spending a lot of his time making these mixed media portraits. The most recent one, of his grandfather (immediately below), took him almost 70 hours to complete.

“I did changed my process on this drawing,” he states, “I started with dry pastel, just because it's easier to block in the large areas. All the detail was done with colored pencils (water-based ) and highlights are [in] tattoo color.”

Almost more fun than seeing the finished pieces is seeing the artist in action. If you'd like to check them out in person, they're up in his tattoo shop in Notodden, Norway.
