This Drive-In Art Exhibit Lets You “Gogh” Visit Van Gogh’s Art From Your Car

"Gogh in Your Car" Tour of the Immersive van Gogh Installation Opens in Toronto

The creators behind Atelier des Lumieres, Massimiliano Siccardi with Luca Longobardi, are opening their Immersive Van Gogh installation in Toronto this summer, and is encouraging Impressionist lovers around the area to “Gogh” visit it from the safety of their cars. This special tour series will be open from June 18-28 and will consist of cycles of fourteen vehicles entering the installation at a time. Guests will be able to experience the full 35-minute multi-sensory show without ever exiting their vehicles, allowing them to properly distance themselves from other spectators.

This intense light show projects some of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous paintings onto the walls of the installation's warehouse, and is accompanied by an interesting medley of natural sounds and contemporary music. You can feel the painter’s larger-than-life legacy in full scope when you’re faced with the swirling brush strokes of his Sunflowers (1888) high above you. “The lights go down and the projection begins,” Co-Producer Corey Ross explains to CBC News. “It will be almost as if the car is floating through the paintings.”

“We started to hear all of the other arts organizations in town and across Ontario and really across Canada have ceased operations and arts workers are losing their jobs…That motivated us even more, we had to figure out a way that we [could] open this show,” continues Ross. The exhibit amazed visitors when it premiered in Paris earlier this year, and Torontonians are so excited to view the show that all the tickets for this automotive tour are currently sold out. Luckily, though, the installation is expected to reopen July 1 for general foot traffic with new safety measures in place to protect visitors and workers. Both visitors and workers will be required to wear a face mask when exploring the exhibit, and you can buy your tickets for the show at the Immersive Van Gogh website.

For a limited time this summer, you can visit the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit in Toronto from the safety of your car.
