“Mermaid Hair” Trend Has Women Dyeing Their Hair Into Magical Sea-Inspired Masterpieces

mermaid hair

Last summer, men’s haircuts and their beards saw an unconventionally colorful trend called the Merman. Suddenly, it seemed like their unnatural aqua locks were the best way to celebrate the warm, beach-friendly months. Women also have their own version of this style and utilize beautiful combinations of pink, blue, green, and purple dye to color their entire head of hair. Like the Mermen, this luscious mermaid hair features fantastical, sea-inspired masterpieces.

Women of all hair lengths can participate in the ever-growing trend. For locks longer than the shoulders, there’s often a multi-colored gradient applied to the head, with cerulean blues gradually transitioning into an eye-catching lavender or rosé. Complex French braiding adds another layer of dimension and texture to this style, proving that this is hair artistry at its finest.

For those who dream of wearing these colors, here are 17 inspirational iterations of the trend. Before you take the plunge, however, Buzzfeed has actually created a handy guide that takes you through the whole mermaid hair process—which can take up to 9 hours—but yields incredible results.
