Luxurious Eco-Friendly Mansion Exists Entirely Below Ground

For those wanting to lessen their negative impact on the environment, the best place to build is down. Known as “underground homes” or “low-impact houses,” these structures minimize the amount of green space used by containing entire buildings below the Earth's surface. Two English firms–NC Homes and Huntsmere–have proposed an underground dwelling that's as luxurious as a conventional, above-the-soil structure. Called Perdu, it's a circular three-bedroom home located on the grounds of Bowdon in Manchester.

Artist Uses Leaves as Autumnal Canvases for Delicate Paintings

As the leaves begin to fall and blanket the ground, Polish artist Joanna Wirazka allows this seasonal process to inspire her. She collects various leaves and then repurposes them as eclectic canvases. Upon this natural workspace, Wirazka creates incredible landscapes with colored pencils and acrylic paints that further accentuate Mother Nature's immense beauty. Alternatively, she also enjoys depicting urban environments from around the world–including big cities like New York and London.

Surreal Self-Portraits Communicate the Isolation of Depression

Edward Honaker's series of dreamlike images expose his personal struggle with depression and allow viewers to further understand the sensitive topic that is mental illness. Diagnosed at 19, the young artist chose to explore the potential of communicating his emotions through a collection of self-portraits. The photographs incite a visceral reaction, unsettling in their stark, black and white compositions. Depression is an isolating illness, lonely and confusing.
