Superheroes Reimagined as 16th Century Paintings

What would it look like if Superman was born in the 16th century? What if the Hulk was a Duke? These are the questions photographer Sacha Goldberger asked himself when he created this playful new series Super Flemish. Some of our favorite pop culture characters like Darth Vader and Snow White got the Flemish treatment as photos of them resembled 16th century paintings.

Surreal Collages of Vintage Portraits by Matthieu Bourel

German artist Matthieu Bourel works in collage to create characters and scenes that we've never seen before. In his series titled Duplicity Serie, he fractures vintage photographs and arranges them in multiple ways over a single composition; pieces of the image are extracted and expanded, and someone's face might appear several times in different iterations. The visually compelling works have elements of surrealism in them.

Artist Designs DIY Paper Templates for Adorable 3D Geometric Animals

Germany-based artist Wolfram Kampffmeyer, aka Paperwolf, builds beautiful geometric animal designs that are constructed completely out of paper. The artist studied computer animation in school and eventually realized that, although he enjoys creating virtual 3D models, he much prefers building them with his hands out of paper. Each one of his playful sculptures comes as a template of pre-cut pieces with perforated edges to allow for easy folding.

Surreal Wood Sculptures Feature Multiple Facial Expressions on One Face

Japanese artist Yoshitoshi Kanemaki chisels these impressive life-sized figures from a single piece of wood. They are portrayed in a realistic manner, but Kanemaki gives his sculptures unique traits. Every impeccable artwork features two or more characters or expressions that are merged into one form. Sometimes, this means that an individual has multiple faces attached to their head, while other times parts of their body is joined with another person.
