Railway Carriage Sculpture Bursts Through Church Floor

Hungarian artist Zsuzsi Csiszer's installation titled tjrs, which translates as Passage, features half of a train car bursting through the floor in the Templespace of Museum Kiscell. The site-specific work brings many thoughts and questions to mind due to its large scale and unusual location within an 18th century temple hall. The life-size sculptural installation leads one to believe that the carriage has inexplicably crashed into the ground.

Surreal Paintings Cloak People in Landscapes

Berlin, Germany-based artist Moki finds inspiration in Japanese artist Hayao Miyazaki's work (Spirited Away) as well as in nature. Her acrylic paintings are filled with images of northern landscapes or as she describes more specifically as “isolated Scandinavian and Icelandic terrain, a subarctic frozen lake continent, untouched caves and moss meadows, and mountains sculpted into anatomical shapes by wind and water.

Statues of Blinded Men Ascending High into the Sky

Karma is an intriguing sculptural installation by Korean artist Do Ho Suh that presents countless men sitting atop one another while shielding each other's eyes. Like his Cause & Effect piece, which features a spectacular tornado of figurines, Karma presents figurative sculptures ascending into the sky like a human ladder. However, in addition to being perched on each other's shoulders, they are successively blinding one another which leads one to wonder: Why?

Intricate Miniature Tape, Thread, and Toothbrush Sculptures

Japanese visual artist Takahiro Iwasaki manipulates common objects, transforming them into intricately designed sculptures. From carving into rolls of tape and carefully assembling the loose threads from towels and socks to architecturally constructing the bristles from toothbrushes, Iwasaki repurposes ordinary objects into extraordinary landscapes and tiny monuments in his Out of Disorder series.
