Stunning Translucent Quilts Honor Indigenous Lands and Culture

Quilting holds deep cultural significance for many Indigenous peoples, intertwining practical necessity with rich storytelling and community traditions. For various Indigenous groups, the textile art has evolved to reflect their histories, identities, and connections to the land. Inspired by the ancient craft, artist Wally Dion creates colorful, translucent quilts that honor Indigenous lands. In 2022, Dion was invited to participate in an exhibition at Wanuskewin Park, a heritage park in Canada.

New Study Reveals Komodo Dragons Have Iron-Capped Teeth

At 10 feet long, venomous, and covered with a scaly suit of armor, Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis) are already terrifying—and fascinating—enough.  And just to add to it, scientists have recently found that these giant lizards have iron-tipped teeth. Using chemical and structural imaging, the researchers, led by paleontologist Aaron LeBlanc, discovered that iron is the protective orange layer coating the serrations and tips of the lizard's teeth.

Teenage Brother Steps up for Sister’s Father-Daughter Dance When Dad Can’t Make It

For many little girls, father-daughter dances are key moments, but things can get tricky when dad is not around. This was the case for 6-year-old Harper, whose dance studio's annual summer showcase was approaching. Not willing to let his sister feel left out, her 14-year-old brother, Micah, proudly stepped in, saving the day and giving her an experience she'll never forget. Harper and Micah's mother Patrice Thompson took a video of the heartwarming dance.
