Having grown up near the Lake District in Cumbria, North West England, artist Emma Tilia spends a lot of time outdoors. Nature is central to her artistic practice, with the dramatic scenery of her home region acting as a constant source of inspiration. Her Flow State collection of abstract paintings features striped, multi-colored brushstrokes that evoke the contours and rhythm of the natural world. Tilia’s unique painting style developed gradually through a lot of experimentation.

Hypnotic Film Transforms Real Weather Satellite Data Into a Living Portrait of Earth

Digital artist and filmmaker Seán Doran turned real satellite data from Earth’s atmosphere into Water World, a hypnotic film created from 2,500 infrared images captured by the GOES-16 weather satellite in late September 2024. Released through his independent project Cosma, the film transforms scientific observations of water vapor drifting above the Western Hemisphere into a cinematic portrait of Earth. At first glance, Water World looks more like a painting than satellite imagery.

Monastery Designed With “Giant Sail” Roof Welcomes Public With Nature-Filled Open Spaces

At the intersection of history and innovation is Stefano Boeri’s new Ambrosian Monastery in Milan, Italy. This monastery was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Milan and will cover an area of 2,700 square meters (about 29,062 square feet), serving as a center for worshippers who live in the Milano Innovation District (MIND), a recently developed area at the forefront of design and sustainability, as well as the larger Milan metropolitan area.
