All-Black Female American Airline Crew Flies to Honor Bessie Coleman

Bessie Coleman moved from Texas to Chicago at the age of 23 in the hopes of a better life with more opportunity. Inspired by the exciting stories of flying that WWI soldiers told her, Coleman decided pursue a career in aviation. Sadly, she was denied entry to any school she approached because she was both a woman and Black. With no other American options to obtain schooling, she traveled to France.

World’s Tallest Statue Is a 600-Foot Homage to the Man Who Unified India

Standing above a river on the western coast of India, a tribute to the country's “unifier” stands tall. The Statue of Unity is so large that it is the tallest statue in the world. Completed in 2018, it depicts lawyer, politician, and statesman Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Just who is this man being honored? Patel was a champion of India's independence from Britain and served as the first deputy prime minister and home minister of independent India.
