Human Figures Formed by Bicycle Chain Contemplate Our Relationship Within the World

Instead of carving statues from one material, Young-Deok Seo creates sculptures by fusing hundreds of tiny components together. The South Korean artist uses bicycle chains to construct his striking figurative artwork. Using this unorthodox material, he renders each subject head-to-toe in the metal links. Amazingly, this does not hinder Seo's ability to create lifelike figures, but rather enhances the shape of the bodies.

Contemporary Getaway Inspired the Humble Beauty of the Farmhouse Barn

A family commissioned their barn-inspired dream home for weekend retreats with their horses in Pullenvale, Australia. Designed by Paul Uhlmann Architect, The Barn is a 412 square meter, or 4,400 square feet, estate defined by beautiful interiors and high ceilings. Though the architecture is contemporary, it's inspired by buildings found in rural settings. Structural timber is used to support the tall ceiling and to frame views of the land.

The Venus of Willendorf, a 4.4-inch-tall carving crafted between 30,000 and 25,000 BCE, is named for its discovery in Willendorf, Austria. However, the stone it is made from could not be found anywhere in the area—a fact that shrouded the object in mystery for years. Now, researchers believe they have an answer to the statue's history, pinpointing the unique rock to northern Italy.
