For millennia, we’ve been concocting creatures that walk, talk, and act just like we do, whether it be through fairy tales, fables, children’s books, films, or visual art. Nathan Durfee’s upcoming solo exhibition fits squarely within that tradition, presenting whimsical scenes in which animals display the same sense of mischief, humor, and joy as any human.

Bamboo Cabin Shaped Like a Rice Dumpling Celebrates Taiwan’s Culinary Heritage

In Taiwan, zongzi are the height of comfort food. They’re petite, gelatinous rice dumplings meticulously wrapped in bamboo leaves, packed with everything from sweet pastes to savory pork. But beyond that, they also happen to be the inspiration behind Cheng Tsung Feng’s newest project, hidden beside a bamboo forest hiking trail in Nantou, Taiwan. Designed for this year’s Nantou Bamboo Dream Festival, Feng’s Bamboo Cabin Plan: Sticky Rice Dumpling is an exercise in gestural architecture.

Italian Police Show up To Cook a Warm Meal for an Elderly Woman Experiencing Loneliness

While loneliness affects people of all ages, older adults are especially vulnerable due to factors including social isolation, loss of loved ones, and reduced mobility. In late 2022, an 87-year-old woman from Florence felt so alone and hungry that she called the police as a last resort. Fortunately, the two officers who arrived had compassion for her situation and took the time to cook her a warm meal.
