Architects Design Futuristic ‘Spaceport City’ for Commercial Space Travel

On August 2, 2020, SpaceX Dragon 2 successfully splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, returning private astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley from a resupply mission to the International Space Station. This historic flight marked the first manned commercial space flight; and to many, it signifies the beginning of space travel for civilians. As recreational flight shifts from science fiction to reality, designers wonder what public space travel will look like.

Cat Takes Shelter From the Rain Under a Sacred Japanese Cat Shrine

Among their many other talents, cats are particularly good at finding the best spots to take a nap. And for one particular group of felines in Japan, there’s no better place than the Miyori Daimyojin shinto shrine in the town of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. Also known as Neko Jinja, meaning “the Cat Shrine,” the small, sacred structure offers local cats a place to shelter from the rain.

Artist Turns Old Bike Chains Into Spectacular Metal Sculptures Inspired by Nature and Humans

When Iowa-based Drew Evans (of Chainbreaker Studio) isn’t running his bicycle repair shop, he’s turning old bike parts into art. The talented metalworker uses discarded bike chains and sprockets to create incredible, nature-inspired scrap metal sculptures. Drew has been welding since 2008, and is now an expert at turning disused metal parts into art. “I greatly enjoy bringing life and beauty to what is often considered to be junk,” he tells My Modern Met.
