Hundreds of Museums Will Offer Free Admission on ‘Museum Day’ This Month

For over 170 years, the Smithsonian has served as a “place of scientific discovery, cultural exploration, and collaborative learning.” In order to foster this mission, the Washington DC-based institution has been committed to keeping its collections free to the public. While offering complimentary admission is not a common practice among American museums, hundreds of sites across the country will follow suit as a part of Smithsonian Magazine‘s Museum Day.
