New to Drawing? Make Sure You Know These Basic Techniques Before You Start

Things to Remember as You Draw Once you’ve got the essentials down, there are a couple of things to keep in mind as you practice these basic drawing techniques. Start light. When you're beginning to sketch, make light marks on your paper. That way, if you make a mistake, they are easier to erase (if you're using pencil). It also allows you to gradually build your tone and shadows. Line weight is important.

Artist Uses 120 Marker Pens to Create Swirling Landscape Drawings Inside a Dome

Brazilian-born visual artist Oscar Oiwa is globally recognized for creating fully immersive installation art made from 360-degree drawings. For his latest piece, titled Oscar Oiwa in Paradise – Drawing the Ephemeral, the artist used 120 black marker pens to adorn an entire inflatable dome with illustrations of imaginative pathways, mythical forests, and swirling skies. Created exclusively for JAPAN HOUSE São Paulo, the installation took two weeks to complete with the help of five assistants.

Spectacular Photos Capture Frozen Beauty of Largest Freshwater Lake in the World

Moscow-based photographer Kristina Makeeva traveled to Lake Baikal in southern Siberia where she captured the beauty of the largest freshwater lake in the word. At around 600 kilometers long (373 miles), the vast, mirror-like surface features layers of transparent ice that has cracked and bubbled, leaving incredible, organic patterns and frozen formations. With icy depths of 5,387 feet (1,642 meters)
