View Leonardo Da Vinci’s Notebooks Online and Go Inside the Mind of a Genius

Thanks to the British Library, we can go inside the mind of a genius and peruse Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks. The first true Renaissance Man, Da Vinci not only painted the Mona Lisa, but was a master inventor who is sometimes credited with creating the parachute and helicopter. And, to top it all off, he wrote his notes backward, in mirror image from right to left.

Hyperreal Whale Beaches on the Banks of the Seine to Raise Environmental Awareness

The Captain Boomer Collective, a Belgian activist art group, is back with another incarnation of its beached whale installation. The hyperrealistic sperm whale sculpture has been beached on the banks of Paris' River Seine. Since 2008, the group has installed the beached whale in different European cities, most notably along the banks of the Thames in London, as a way to raise environmental awareness.

Massive Sand Sculptures Bring Life Under the Sea to the Surface

Every year, the beaches that line the resort town of Søndervig, Denmark are transformed into a sandy spectacle for the highly-anticipated Søndervig Sand Sculpture Festival. For this year's edition, artists have been asked to sculpt colossal works of art that exhibit a particularly fitting theme: “life under the sea.” Spanning aquatic wildlife, underwater civilizations, fantastical figures, and even some particularly popular cartoon characters, the subject matter explored by this year's participants is simultaneously diverse and cohesive.
