Bride Spends 8 Months Crocheting Her Own $70 Wedding Dress

Abbey Ramirez-Bodley decided to get crafty when she couldn't find a wedding dress that was both affordable and perfect for her big day. After spotting a crocheted dress on another bride, Ramirez-Bodley was instantly inspired to create a similar style for herself. “I really fell in love with the idea,” she gushed. “I decided to change it a bit and make it into my own ideal wedding dress.” The bride-to-be decided to use $70 worth of cotton yarn to crochet her own gown. Her aunt–who actually taught her to crochet when she was younger–pitched in. Their distance from one another (2.5 hours between them) made this a longer project than you'd expect–rounding out to about 8 months.

After all her hard work, Ramirez-Bodley successfully produced a beautifully sentimental wedding dress. She paired the crocheted gown with a $100 green dress, layered underneath, to add a fun pop of color that matched her wedding's theme. “Making something with your own hands out of love is very special on the most important day of your life,” said the newlywed.

For those who want to follow suit, Ramirez-Bodley has some great advice: “Do what you think is best and don't let anyone deter you. Start early and don't get frustrated. The outcome is worth all the work.”
