Redesigned 2D Lamps Continue to Mesmerize with 3D Optical Illusions

Last year, we marveled over the BULBING, a stunning series of optical illusion lamps by Studio Cheha. Now, they're back with a revamp of their popular lantern, which continues to fool your eye into thinking that the flattened design is actually in three dimensions. The first iteration of the BULBING featured playful skull, light bulb, and balloon imagery, while three new versions (referred to as “by BULBING”) are inspired by vintage-style desk lamps.

In addition to changing the way that the devices look, Studio Cheha improved their function. They made the LED lights brighter and also included a dimmer switch–this enables you to choose your desired lighting experience, from decorative to practical.

To produce “by BULBING,” thick sheets of acrylic glass are laser engraved with intricate lines into lampshade silhouettes. Their mesmerizing optical illusions are created once the lights are switched on and illuminate the fine lines, producing an undeniable sense of three dimensionality.

Studio Cheha's series has made its debut on Kickstarter, where you can pre-order its new lights. Named DESKi, ZIGGi, and CLASSi, each has fantastic vintage styling with the clever, contemporary twist that made them famous.
