Many of us are alone during coronavirus lockdowns, but that doesn’t mean we have to be lonely. And, as we’re seeing, we’re devoid of experiencing fantastic cultural events either. World-famous musicians, stuck inside like everyone else, are entertaining us with their talents. Chris Martin of the band Coldplay played a mini gig at his house as part of a new series called Together, At Home (#TogetherAtHome).
Martin sat at his piano during a half-hour Instagram Live and chatted with his fans while playing some requests—including a David Bowie cover. “I thought what would be nice would be to check in with some of you out there and see how you’re doing,” he said at the beginning of the session, “and where you are, and what I could do for you.”
Together, At Home continued the next day with musician John Legend. Accompanying him on the piano was his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and daughter, Luna. Like Martin, he played songs from his own discography as well as covers—including a request by Luna for “A Tale as Old as Time” from Beauty and the Beast.
In addition to entertaining the masses, Together, At Home has a philanthropic aspect to it. The series is a collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Citizen. Together, they have launched a campaign called the Solidarity Response Fund with a goal of raising $675 million throughout April towards COVID-19 relief.
The series called Together, At Home has world-famous musicians playing concerts on Instagram Live every day. John Legend followed Chris Martin.
In addition to Together, At Home, Keith Urban and Ben Gibbard (from Death Cab for Cutie) played for their fans.
