Ingenious Pencil Design Includes a Built-In Sharpener

Ordinary graphite gets a sharper outfit with designer Andrew Pyza‘s pencil+, a pencil holder and extender that includes an eraser at one end and a sharpener at the other. The tool fits any average pencil from full-size down to 14mm long, and any time the tip breaks, all you have to do is unscrew the nub and spin it through the sharpener before getting back to writing or doodling.

Nostalgic Underground Bunker Eerily Mimics a Neighborhood From the 1960s

Mountain views, a Jacuzzi, a posh pink-tinted washroom—this property has all the makings of an opulent home, except that it’s entirely subterranean. A full 25 feet underground, it’s the work of Girard B. “Jerry” Henderson’s Underground World Home Inc., which constructed bunkers like these back in the 1960s and 70s when the majority of Americans feared the imminence of nuclear war and wanted concealed spaces where they could live safely if necessary.

Canada’s 15,000-Mile “Great Trail” Will Be the Longest Car-Free Route on Earth

Almost 25 years ago, back in 1992, Canada began building its cross-country course called The Great Trail. Today, it’s 87% completed, spanning 20,770 kilometers (over 12,000 miles) between 13 provinces and territories from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Slated for completion in 2017, the full route will stretch 24,000 kilometers (nearly 15,000 miles), representing the longest recreational trail on earth.
