If you are the subject of photographer Bence Bakonyi's project, entitled Transform, you'll find that blending into the background is a piece of cake. In the series, the Hungarian artist creates visually captivating and vibrant portraits in which his subjects become human chameleons. Coordinated wardrobes are purposefully matched to corresponding backdrops so that his subjects–all but the tops of their heads–fuse smoothly into each scene.
Although Bakonyi intends for each body to mix with the background, he maintains a distinct separation between the two unique elements in order to produce a visual experience for his audience. When examining the project, viewers may experience a comfortable confusion between where the landscape ends and the portrait begins.
If you enjoy work in which the art of camouflage is the main focus, there are many talented artists to check out. China-based Liu Bolin produces masterfully executed optical illusions with body paint and photography, here and here. Desiree Palmen also chooses to captivate her audience with her creative disappearing acts. And Jean-Paul Bourdier has similar tendencies to Bakonyi's work, choosing to maintain certain human aspects in these visual unions, entitled Bodyscapes.
