There are many benefits to owning a hot tub, but having one requires the right set up—most notably, the electrical demands needed to make one run. For folks facing this problem—or those who prefer a nomadic lifestyle—Floris Schoonderbeek has created a hot tub that can travel with you. Called the Weltevree Dutchtub, it’s a portable, stand-alone basin powered by a wood-burning stove.
The elegant half-sphere weighs around 165 pounds and holds 171 gallons of water—enough for four people to comfortably enjoy it. To warm the water, the tub connects to its heating system via metal hoses and derives energy from the coil structure that’s filled with lit wood. Preparing the Dutchtub is a cross between using a fireplace and boiling a pot of water—simply start a fire inside the coils, cover the tub, and regularly stir the water. When it heats to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s time to hop in.
The Dutchtub has been on the market for many years, but it was recently released in additional colors: orange, grey, olive green, pigeon blue, and terra red. Schoonderbeek’s relaxing creation is available through the Weltevree website.
