It has become increasingly difficult to distinguish what medium of art I'm looking at anymore! Marta Penter, a psychologist-turned-painter based in Brazil, is playing mind games with her photorealistic paintings. Her series “Shared Intimacy” features visuals that you'd swear were candid photographs from a personal collection.
Penter paints with watercolors and oils on canvas. She focuses on keeping her paintings in black and white with an occasional pop of color. As to why she makes her paintings so enormous, Penter says, “When you have a large image, it causes you to become a part of the painting much quicker than if it were to be smaller.” This tactic is especially valuable for a series like this that concentrates on intimacy.
