Brooklyn-based artist Iris Scott paints without a brush so she can creatively utilize her unique style of textural Impressionism. When discussing her playful finger paintings, Scott states, “There's nothing between me and the paint–I feel all the tiny nuances. I can manipulate thick paint with my fingers in ways brushes never could.” The artist specifically takes part in an art movement called Instinctualism, which displays vibrant colors, enjoyable topics, and textures that are sure to delight one's eyes.
“I want my paintings to be both an escape from our everyday life, and an intensification of the recognizable,” explains Scott. So her ideas can come alive, the painter often uses over 100 different, oil-based colors to design a single scene. Scott primarily aspires to show the potential hidden within finger painting as she works to create a world her viewers will want to be part of.
