The fun and adventure of kayaking often comes with the caveat of having to strap the long boat to the top of your car. To save yourself and your vehicle the hauling hassle, Pakayak has created an innovative hard-shell kayak that can be collapsed from 14 feet into something that can be carried like a piece of luggage.
Pakayak uses a tongue and groove interlocking shape to connect each section together. Silicone gaskets are compressed between them and then secured with patented clamps to form a watertight seal, ensuring that you won’t sink while paddling. When it’s time to disassemble, the kayak separates into six individual pieces that fit inside one another and become a 3.5 feet long, 55-pound item that can be worn on your back or wheeled behind you.
According to the company, set up and take-down of this kayak is done in five minutes. For those itching to get on the water, Pakayak will soon be on the market—they’ve well-surpassed their Kickstarter goal and can now take their product into heavy production.
