Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met, Manager of My Modern Met Store, and co-host of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. As an illustrator and writer living in Seattle, she chronicles illustration, embroidery, and beyond through her blog Brown Paper Bag and Instagram @brwnpaperbag. She wrote a book about embroidery artist Sarah K. Benning titled "Embroidered Life" that was published by Chronicle Books in 2019. Sara is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned her BFA in Illustration in 2008 and MFA in Illustration Practice in 2013.

Intricately Folded Pages Transform Hardcover Books into Standing Sculptures

Japanese artist Yuto Yamaguchi transforms hardcover books into sculptures by simply folding their pages. Without using scissors, he crafts the bold designs by intricately creasing each page so that together, they appear as one cohesive form. Yamaguchi's excellent craftsmanship produces smooth curves and sharp lines, making pop culture characters, cups of coffee, and lettering instantly recognizable and easy to read.

Cute Chipmunks Playfully Interact with "Star Wars" Toys

LEGO builder and artist Chris McVeigh created a whimsical series that pairs adorable chipmunks with tiny toys from the Star Wars universe. Called Chipmunk Adventures, the photographs show these plastic action figures interacting with the small creatures in fun and playful ways. Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers take joyrides on their backs, while an Ewok is considerably less friendly and points a spear at one critter, taking it by surprise.

Photographers Cleverly Remake Old Master Paintings

In 2011, Booooooom creator Jeff Hamada began The Remake Project, a competition that challenged professional and amateur artists to recreate their favorite old master paintings as contemporary photographs. The results were fantastic, as creatives painted their bodies, concocted elaborate sets, and struck a pose just like their classic counterparts. Several years later, this project has taken its next logical step as a publication released through Chronicle Books titled Remake: Master Works of Art Reimagined.
