Renovated Office Building Given a Fresh Façade Focusing on Emergency Exits

Tokyo's historic Nishi-Shimbashi business district is gaining some dynamic visual interest thanks to the ARAKAWA Bldg. Designed by Nikken Sekkei, this office rebuilding project is defined by emergency stairs that wind around the entire façade of the building. In contrast to the area’s dense development, the building playfully imagines the future of local structures. The project’s architects were motivated by a desire to have the structure engage more actively with the public.

Stunning Contemporary Cabin Pairs Desolate Nature With 15th-Century History

Located on the site of an old Estonian manor near a bog, the hotel is described as a place “where nature meets history.” This particular contemporary cabin is the first in a series of three new structures on the historical site.

Incredible Winding Staircase That Looks Like a Rollercoaster in South Korea

Though it may certainly look like it belongs in an amusement park, the new winding structure in Pohang’s Hwanho Park is not actually a rollercoaster. Designed by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth, SpaceWalk is a massive sculptural staircase full of dramatic twists and turns. The project is South Korea’s largest-ever contemporary public sculpture. Visitors to SpaceWalk can walk through almost all of the structure except for the large loop at the center.
