Pavement Cracks Become an Opportunity for Colorful Mosaic Art

Cracks on the pavement are a common sight in cities. And while most people choose to step around them, one artist is using these gaps as an opportunity for urban beautification. French artist Ememem—sometimes known as “the pavement surgeon”—fills street fractures with dazzling mosaic art, which transforms the decay into something beautiful. From large potholes to unsightly chips on a cobblestone path—Ememem fills all shapes of crevices with colorful designs.

Black Artists Revitalize the Streets of Detroit With a Colorful Mural Festival

The City of Detroit’s North End just got a whole lot more colorful. And that’s all thanks to BLKOUT Walls—a mural festival led by Black artists—which launched its inaugural event back in July. Giant Rainbow Murals Inspired by the Secret Colors of Pigeon Feathers

Many birds are known for their fantastic plumage, while others remain underappreciated. Los Angeles-based artist Adele Renault uses city-dwelling pigeons as the muse for kaleidoscopic murals of detailed feathers. The ongoing series, called Gutter Paradise, decorates building façades across the globe with joyous colors and shapes. Renault is originally from Ardennes, Belgium, where she grew up on a farm.
