Democracy is under a global threat. From the violent January 6 insurrection in the U.S. to democratic backsliding in Europe, participatory governments are at a critical historical point. As developed by the ancient Greeks, democracy requires participation from an informed citizenry to function properly. The Internet Archive has created a resource to help facilitate this political engagement. Democracy's Library is a repository of free, online, trustworthy sources published by democratic governments.

Mom Installs Defibrillators All Around Town After Son Dies From Cardiac Arrest

On New Year’s Day 2022, 18-year-old Jamie Rees was at a friend’s house, watching fireworks and celebrating the new year, when he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest. His friends called the ambulance and performed CPR on him in the meantime. They located the nearest defibrillator, which was not too far away, but it was locked away in a school. And police officer that was the first on the scene didn’t have a defibrillator with him.

Hundreds of Sick Children Are Transported to a Christmas Wonderland Thanks to Photoshop Artists

Every year, photographers and Photoshop artists come together to bring the magic of the holidays to sick children across the world. The heART Project is a collaboration between award-winning Australian photographer Karen Alsop from Story Art and a group of volunteer photographers from across the globe. This year, the group visited children in the United States and Australia and brought a little Christmas joy to families struggling with childhood health challenges.

One-Eared Painting Dog Named Van Gogh Gets Adopted

Life was not kind to a sweet Boxer-Pit Bull mix who was found bloodied and cowering in a drainage pipe. Dog fighting had cruelly ripped off most of his left ear. In 2019, the 4-year-old arrived at a rescue in North Carolina and received the care he needed, including surgically removing what was left of his ear. The pup was then named Van Gogh.
