Artist Creates Powerful Dragon Sculpture Out of Trees Destroyed by a Storm

After a brutal storm, Italian sculptor Marco Martalar was moved to transform the damage into something beautiful. Sitting atop a mountain in the northern Trentino region of Italy, an enormous dragon has become a symbol of Mother Nature's force. Martalar created the magnificent creature from the scattered branches of the storm, turning tragedy into art. In 2018, the Vaia storm ripped across northern Italy.

Shimmering Metallic Branches “Grow” To Form Elegant Animal Sculptures

Using that same concept, artist Kang Dong Hyun produces awe-inspiring animal sculptures that are born from these types of complex systems. 49-Foot-Tall Three-Headed Dragon Statue Breathes Real Fire in Russia

From medieval fairytales to the recent Game of Thrones series, dragons have fascinated people for centuries. Many cultures from around the world have their own interpretation of this mythical creature, and in Russia and Ukrainian folklore, it is a monstrous dragon called Zmei Gorynich (meaning “Dragon, the Son of the Mountain”). In fact, fantasy fans have the opportunity to see a life-size version of the villain at the Russian theme park Kudykina Gora.

Androgynous Bronze Sculptures Capture the Fluidity of the Human Body in Motion

At first glance, it's hard to tell that Isabel Miramontes's sculptures are made of bronze. The Spanish-born and Belgium-based artist manages to find the most fluid lines for her abstract figures, capturing each one in a moment of activity that elegantly interacts with the negative space around it. Miramontes received formal training in Fine Art at the Institut Saint Marie and at the Fine Arts Academy of Saint-Gilles before immersing herself in sculpture in 1994.
