Bluegrass was created in the Appalachian region in the 1940s. Since then, its off-beat, uplifting sounds have made their way around the United States—and the world. Not only have people abroad been listening to bluegrass recordings, but they are also performing them in masterful ways that add their own brand of charm.
One of the best examples is the Japanese bluegrass band Redbull, which both bluegrass experts and casual listeners have praised for their interpretations. Particularly, their cover of “Fox on the Run” at a venue in Tokyo has caught the eyes and ears of many. While bluegrass is widely regarded as a fun, cheerful genre, Redbull's perfect performance is enhanced by the good spirits of its members.
The song, written by Tony Hazzard in 1968 and first recorded as a rock song by the English band Manfred Mann, was introduced to bluegrass music by Bill Emerson and quickly became a favorite among musicians in no time. The group also performed the standard “Blue Moon of Kentucky” at the same show—a soulful performance that sits right there with Elvis Presley's and Paul McCartney's versions.
While Redbull seems to keep mostly to their local venues, a YouTube channel has compiled some of their performances from a few years ago. In case you ever need a musical pick me up that makes you think of long summer nights, visit Hirom52x's YouTube Channel.
