Modern Chinese Tea House Is an Elegant Oasis That Merges Past and Present

The architects of Atelier Deshaus have transformed a small, unusable space between office buildings in Shanghai into a tranquil oasis. Their modern Chinese tea house is tiny, at just 130 square feet, but feels spacious due to clever design choices.

Located in a small garden with a paulownia tree as the focal point, the tea house spruces up a dead space between the stairwells of adjoining offices. By placing the structure strategically, it gives purpose to the space without invading it.

Large open windows grant a vista onto the garden and the impressive paulownia, which stands sculpturally in a central location. The clean lines and minimal design are a modern twist on classic tea house architecture.

Through their ingenuity, the firm has created a tranquil oasis, rendering the shabby garden into an area perfect for a tea break.
